I have the 40 cd set, have the list in an excel file if you want
it. The real set does not look like the ones in the picture.
Guy probably just pressed them himself.

The Platinum Series was produced by a company called ETV in the mid 90s. The collection contains 40 CDs. It is an excellent collection to start a business with.

Any way you slice it its never wise to purchase music or software for that matter from e-bay. Even if its genuine most people selling are either selling ripped content or have ripped a copy(s) for themselves.

Why risk it when services like napster offer a subscription for 9.99 a month with a unheard of selection of music.

Or the Record Pool that brings you 20+ songs EACH WEEK..

Is it really worth the headache???

Ok I am still new to the whole digital sceen but from what I understand if the riaa comes in to audit you ..they give you 24 hrs to produce the originals.

I honestley beleive that you are correct and some people will ripp the originals and then sell the originals off then that's there business ..I would never do that . That is why I would like to know exactly what I am looking for.

As for napster...I know it's legit now , but some people can't get the old saying out of their head "Once a theif always a theif"...besides how would you prove they are legall downloads.

I have never looked into the record pool...so I can't comment on that.

I should just move to canada ..they get all the good stuff...LOL

BTW Digital Scott did you get that PM I sent you

There are several of these "grey" music collections floating around - most of which are illegal for sale in the US.

Promo-only Canada still sells parts of the "Platinum" and "Essentials" collections.

Another one is the ERG "Knockout Hits" collection, which consisted of 200 cds and about 3700 songs. There's a track listing of it here (http://www.ergmusic.com/cdnDjs/download.asp).

You'll ocassionally see these posted on binary usegroups. My guess is someone grabs a copy there and then tries to sell it on ebay.

So what you are saying it the music in this collection is NOT avalible by any means legaly in the US???

I find that very hard to believe.

You are supposed to be from Canada to legally get them because they were licensed through AVLA and not the RIAA. I think if they could sell them legally in the States they would. It may have something to do with that in Canada they are sold as "lease only and not for sale."

I am sure if you try hard enough you can get anything you want ...wink wink

It all has to do with Copyright Laws...
Here in the USA, we have different copyright laws. and in canada too.In canada there laws are nothing like ours ,they almost dont even have copyright laws,, but you would have to look in to that.

I guess law are different all over the would , like dog fighting is really bad here in the USA and in china it is all good.

beating the crap out of some kid with a stick ,just for puting paint on a car is just fine in _______ * .But here in the USA ,,no good.

Most law here in the USA are set up just to make MONEY and have little to do with NOTHING..

Dont get me wrong , I know copyright laws are here, so the music artis or programers can get paid and I think that is great. $$$$$ is good for all of us..:)

BUT some LAWS are just @ssholy

I own a legit set of the plat series.
It was sold as a 20 disk set and a 40 disk set.
But the kicker is it wasnt sold, you signed a 99 year lease.
That's right, a 99 year lease on it.

They were taken off the market as a couple of people who had music in it didnt like the fact that their songs were in it and they stopped the production of it.
It is illegal to have this set unless you are a nightclub. That was another term of the lease.
The reason for the lease.... what nightclub will be around for 99 years, much less how many of us will live that long?

In response to what do the disks look like, they are a light grey color. They have a large Bblack number that starts at the top of the disk and runs to the bottom of the disk. The songs are listed on the cd in black ink. The top of the disk has Platinum Series In white ink.

The bottom says "For lease only. Not for resale. Unauthorized use or duplication Prohibited. Licensed by EVT Network in conjunction with Promo Only Cd's."

I hope this clears up the confusion on the plat series.

bchi again w/ the solid info : )

I will add:

that actually there came a time when they did sell them outright (not lease) for about $800 ea. set of 40 CDs (which was Platinum 1&2).

They also came in original pressings that were olive green w/ black printing. the look of the disc itself is a VERY large number, w/ track listings on the disc as well.

Came in a skinny "1/2" binder, w/ a relatively accurate (not 100%) printed index that was indexed by title, artist, and style (could be quite subjective at times...) in ascending BPM order.

Good luck!
